After Hours Eats

After Hours Eats

Best known for its lively daytime crowds and sun-kissed shopping strolls, you may not think of the Melrose Arts District as a nighttime destination. Historically the neighborhood has closed its doors around 11pm, however, with a new generation of restaurants and bars, things have changed. If you are looking for late night eats, there are a myriad of options ranging from outstanding bar food to delicious Asian and Italian cuisine. Here’s the round-up.

Sometimes you just need to have an old-school experience. I mean Rat Pack throwback, real Italian food with stiff cocktails, classic service, and good friends. The kind of meal where you eat till you fall out of your chair, then order some cannolis. Lucky for you, Frankie’s is open late (midnight) and is no doubt the right choice. Where else can you get Osso Bucco and cannolis good as Brooklyn?

Famous for their wings which come in over 5 styles, Hot Wings Cafe makes for a perfect late night pairing with sports and drinking. You can dine-in or make it to-go which seems to be popular for this establishment. They also serve beer and wine. Open till 2am Friday and Saturday and midnight on weekdays.

7011 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles 90038

This list would not be complete without an option for the late-night sweet tooth. Find yourself wandering in at midnight for a crack pie or delicious cereal milk and compost cookie made of pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, graham cracker, butterscotch and chocolate chips. Their menu is imaginative and available at night! Milk Bar is open till 1am on the weekend and midnight on weekdays.

Burgers, wings, salads, and more; the menu here is delicious. The vision is simple and clean. Not much tops a juicy burger and a beer when you want it (open till midnight). MJ’s offers up some of the best food on the block with a mouth-watering burger menu.

7265 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles 90046

Snakepit is the oldest bar on Melrose since 1991, with an undeniable charm that makes you want to be one of the locals. They are open till 2am daily and one of the better options when on a budget with great specials on drinks and food. The menu exceeds ordinary bar apps with offerings like polenta fries, vegan chili, baja fish tacos, and beer bratwurst. Self-proclaimed as a whiskey, beer, and football kind of place, there is no doubt this is a late-night watering hole of the most classic genre.

7529 Melrose Ave. Los Angeles, 90046

There may be no better late-night food than Ramen. After a few drinks out on the block, the ever-so satisfying creamy tonkotsu pork broth and slurpable noodles provide a spectacular marriage of flavor and literal buzz kill. For those looking to sit, chill, and dine in after the bars, this spot has some of the highest rated ramen and chashu bowls in all of LA. Vegan options also available. Tatsu Ramen is centrally located in the Melrose Arts District, open till 3am Thur-Sat!

7111 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles 90046

The Parlor is a fully loaded bar, open till 2am on the weekend. Their menu is ideal for late night grubbing offering comfort food like rib tacos, truffle fries, deviled eggs, and poke nachos. When it comes to bar food, this is most likely what you want. Grab a light jacket and gather ‘round their fire pit as we approach fall weather.

The Village Idiot is a popular establishment with a special late-night happy hour Monday-Friday, 11pm-2am. Happy hour offers various drink and food specials. The Village Idiot is perhaps the best option in the Melrose Arts District for a rock-solid pub burger, however the menu is robust with sophisticated Brit-inspired fusion like Steak and Potato pie, chicken gravy waffle fries, and ale steamed mussels. They offer full bar, impressive beer and wine selections, delicious entrees, and delectable appetizers.
