It’s hard to keep up with the incredible tattoo work being done by the artists needling on Melrose Avenue, so we regularly use this space to highlight some of gorgeous new pieces. From delicate black stenciling to intricate fantasy scenes, the history of body art is revered by some, while boundaries are being completely disregarded by others – just how we like it! So, if you’re looking for traditional tattooing or have a wild idea in mind, no doubt an artist on Melrose can realize your unique vision. Enjoy doing your research and don’t forget to share your piece on IG and tag @melroseartsdistrict.
There’s definitely a mood at Bamboo Tattoo. These recent big cat portraits have captured the incredible movement and power of the mighty felines. And the incredible merging of blue-eyed beauty is most definitely a show piece.

We love a do-it-all, so highlighting Daniel Sartor (Dark) of Body Electric gives us a lot of amazing work from which to choose. We’ve got sweet watercolor, we’ve got vibrant graphic fantasy, we’ve got black and gray. Imagine what Dark can do with your vision!

Uriel comes down from Ventura to make his mark from the Generation 8 shop. And holy wow, look at these marks! The precision and detail are jaw-dropping. These will make you cut the sleeves off all of your clothes.
Inking out of Golden Daggers, Anais Chabane specializes in ornamental and mandala tattoos. These require not only exceptional design and execution skills, but a real reverence for the emotional significance of these pieces for the client. Very special work.
Daniel Ward, working out of the High Seas Tattoo shop, is another great generalist who can make black and grey look as potent as full color. He does elevate traditional pieces, but we’re particularly fond of these little pop cuties.

We’re obsessed with Maria Garza’s work. A resident at Melrose’s newest shop, Iron & Ink Tattoo, she’s so good at so much we couldn’t pick just one style. Whether it’s moody, playful, or dramatic, she captures the spirit you want to carry around with you for life.
We’ve said it before and here we are saying it again: Dean Berton has a completely unmatched style that is visceral and grungy and beautiful and you’ll never stop looking at yourself if you get a piece of body art from him.

Love love LOVE fine line tattooing. It can be delicate or intricate, it can be playful or weighty, it can be images or words (or both) but it’s always best done by someone with a patient and steady hand and intense focus, like Zara Solava at Through Your Skin.
