In L.A., “historical buildings” are hard to come by; you pretty much have the pink wall and the La Brea tar pits. But the 7600 building has been a staple on Melrose Avenue since 1982. The following year they were featured in People magazine, pictured above, referenced as the place where goths, weirdos and high heeled ladies could all come to shop. The owners, Deny and Sylvia, who have been there since the beginning, are still dedicated to curating cool new businesses and stores. 7600 is truly a one-stop-shop for the coolest services and clothes. And with Coachella around the corner you’ll definitely want to go check it out for all your festival fabulous needs.
Everyone wants to be a DJ these days, don’t they? If you want to be the next DJ Khaled, (he’s a DJ right?) David Garnish is your man. He’s a DJ trainer who was born in England so you KNOW he’s good. So good he trained Paris Hilton, let’s just say that. And with Coachella coming up around the corner, you may want to go check in with David and see if you can get the talent to go along with your new fierce look that you’ll be buying at 7600 Melrose.

If you’re looking for clothes for the Coachella party you’re going to be DJing, there are three options at 7600. The first is Ethik, which specializes in men’s streetwear. As the line between men’s and women’s streetwear has blurred, most young women are using men’s sweats and windbreakers as staples of their wardrobes. Ethik started in New York, in conjunction with a pro skate and BMX team, so they’ve got a really sporty cool vibe. If you’re a guy with flav (flavor), Ethik is your spot, because they don’t sacrifice comfort for style, while keeping the clothes slightly dangerous and fashionable.

The next place to go in 7600 is Denim Heaven. They take vintage jeans, Levi’s mostly, and alter them to fit your assets, for lack of a better word, heavenly. They also have cute cropped jean shorts and cool cargo jumpsuits. While some Levi’s go for as much as $118 dollars, the average cost of a jean at Denim Heaven is far less. And they fit, so you won’t have to take them into a tailor!
Also downstairs at 7600 is JesseBelle Boutique, and it’s wild, you guys. Everything is custom-made by Isabela Vasile. They have lots of sexy corsets with rhinestones and pearls, along with beaded fringe jackets and incredible headpieces. This is the place to go if you want a sparkly bodysuit or anything else that will really make you stand out in the crowd. Isabela Vasile creates a lot of custom pieces for rappers and singers, many of which are featured in her shop. When you make it in there, be sure to ask about the tiny jean jacket that has ‘Kulture’ embroidered in rhinestones on the back for Cardi B’s daughter. Another must-see are the bracelets made from repurposed spoons. Her boutique is over-the-top in the best way and you don’t want to miss it.
In order to get your skin get ready for all the music festivals, you’ll need to visit Feride. She’s a facialist opening a new beauty and skincare spa downstairs at 7600 called LaTurca. She was born in Turkey and uses Turkish influences for beauty and skincare. Can’t wait to check this one out, because we all know how important looking fresh is. Should be open by mid-April.
7600 is also home to Adam Fisher, who runs Garden of Sound, which is not actually a hippie sound bath place but rather a well-known voice-over studio where the likes of Alec Baldwin and Sarah Silverman have recorded. And that was information given to me; I didn’t stalk Sarah because, legally, I’m not allowed to anymore.

Whether you decide to live up to your full potential of DJing or not, it’s always important to look your best, and to do that you’re going to need a fresh cut, and the place to go is Elegance. Located on the corner of 7600, it’s an awesome barbershop with an edgy artistic style. Taylor is a barber who works there and he’s so nice you’ll think you’ve found your new best friend.
Overall, 7600 is an amazing building because, along with sustaining longevity, it’s been able to stay current and relevant over the years. And with the variety of businesses and shops inside, it really has something for everyone.
