Melrose Ave is the perfect meet-up point for a Tinder soirée with a wide variety of destinations from bars and restaurants to coffee and dessert shops. Whether you’re looking for a daytime espresso and jaunt down the boulevard or an evening cocktail with small plates, Melrose has it all. The centrality of Melrose makes it a great meeting point for those on opposite sides of the city and there are conversation starters everywhere you look, like world-class street murals, unique establishments, and cutting-edge fashion. Here are some ideas for creative dates around the Melrose block.
Melrose Umbrella Co. is craft cocktail and burger bar decorated with antique old timey furniture that would fit well in a haunted house. Cocktails range from $12-14 with a Happy Hour offering a House Old Fashioned option for $9 and Schlitz beer for $4. The crowd is a mix of eclectic hipsters, tourists, laptops, dogs, etc. The vintage décor and ambience is the winning factor here, combo’d with the full bar and food options. You can dress casual hip or come from work and fit in nicely either way.

I know it seems random and potentially off the mark for a romantic meet up, but I highly recommend checking out Milk’s top-notch desserts as a first date starter. Their selection of hand-crafted desserts range from delicious brownies and cookies to highly addictive butterscotch pudding, chocolate mousse, and what could be considered the best ice cream bars ever! Make this a casual romp, talk food and pleasure, and find out what brand of sweet your new fling is into. This date is ideally coupled with a stroll before or after your dessert. You’ll save some money, get to see your date in the daylight and be satisfied, regardless of what happens.
MILK BAR LOS ANGELES

I’ll admit that I’ve been on a Tinder date or two at The Parlor. It’s not that this sports bar is overly romantic, but sometimes a little familiarity goes a long way. It’s exactly what you want and expect from a nice sports bar with a large drink menu and delicious appetizer options. However, the biggest selling point might be the outdoor patio equipped with fire pits to stay warm on a brisk night. This is a popular establishment with a young crowd, so you are likely to be surrounded by other couples on dates, which is usually a good thing in this situation. So bring a light jacket, grab a beverage and some apps at the bar, and find a spot around the fire pit.

What says date night more than Italian food? This is a cute date choice for a more ambitious approach; or let’s say more ambitious than coffee date… say 2nd or 3rd meet up? The Sit Down has a romantic, classic and quiet setting. Perhaps the game winner for me was the BYOB option with the open patio, coupled with some of the best pizza in town. If you think you are ready to handle full conversation and the check, then I would recommend this as a solid option.

This list would not be complete without one traditional coffee shop. Coffee shops are probably the best low risk choice for first time encounters. They are un-assuming, budget friendly, and pleasant. Melrose has a lot of coffee options with cafés sprawling down the ave, however Toasted and Roasted has that classic neighborhood vibe, chill ambiance, and really good coffee. Look no further for the coffee and walk date; this is the spot.
TOASTED AND ROASTED

The Village Idiot is perhaps too on the nose in terms of the perfect Tinder date, but does that mean it should be left off the list? Of course not. If you are looking to impress and want to include alcohol and food on this outing, this is a great option. The Idiot has a variety of moody, dimly lit tables in the main room, ample bar seating, and a back room that might offer more privacy and less ambient noise. They have full bar, impressive beer and wine selections, delicious entrees, and perfect small bite options. In terms of bar dating, this place just feels right and it will make you look like a classy, generous spender without having to go crazy $$$$.
