Spring Festival Season Is Around The Corner: Where To Find The Ultimate Fest Fashion On Melrose Avenue

Just in case we get something like a winter here in beautiful SoCal, festival season waits until spring approaches and we’re pretty much assured perfect outdoor party weather. Not only are we graced with some of the best weather in the country, but we also host some of the most epic yearly music events on the planet.

While music is the driver for these weekend wonders, each amps up the cultural add-ons: food, art, sports, theatre, dance.  Between the Insta appeal and celebrity, these sense spectaculars put a spotlight on street fashion. Even though your catwalk might be a muddy field in the desert, you can still rock a head-turning look perfect for a loooooooong day of running between stages, eating all the food, drinking at whatever booth has the shortest line, and dancing so much dancing.

Here are some shopping suggestions for five upcoming must-go festivals.

On March 3 and 4, Expo Park in Los Angeles becomes home to AIR+STYLE. Inspired by L.A.’s world-renowned skate culture, this event offers street-style skateboarding and snowboarding as well as X Games-like competitions. That should be enough, but there will be a ton of food, art, and music by Phoenix, Zedd, Gucci Mane, Phantogram, and more.

This is a walk-and-watch festival, so you’ll want to go for something athleisurely on the body and comfortable on the feets.

Official is the headwear brand for boarders of all kinds. Even if it’s 90 degrees in L.A., beanies WILL be worn. The Janoski cuff beanies are perfect for AIR+STYLE because they are unisex, in a flexible palette, and look cool even when it’s sweltering.

In-between weather means in-between clothing. Enter crop tops! Long sleeves, short waist. Practical, on trend. Rcnstrct Studio has re-envisioned vintage pieces into one-of-a-kind fashion statements. This Champion hoodie cropper is sporty, sexy, and you won’t see another like it.

Every pair of shoes in Cook Kicks will grab attention, and they’re also made to be worn well. The brand new Adidas Human Race look great, and will serve you well running through the park and standing around ski jumps for twelve hours.

Another fantastical Insomniac production, Beyond Wonderland is Lewis Carroll on even more acid. Held March 16 and 17 at the NOS Event Center in San Bernardino, this is going to be a trippy weekend of PLUR. Five stages (one roving pop-up stage), dozens of DJs and artists, and all the “things” you’d expect Alice to experience when she goes further down the rabbit hole.

At Beyond Wonderland, people make the most of what little they wear. Costumes, body art, and colorful imagery are to be considered.

Of course, protecting your delicate eyes is very important when you’re spending all day in the sun. But let’s face it, the sunnies from New Profanity are as much for making a statement as they are for wrinkle prevention. Colorful and playful, perfect for raves.

Ain’t NOBODY doing fantasy wear like Cosmo. His pieces are meticulous, detailed, elaborate and somehow, totally wearable. You can move in these. Or, just stay where you are and let the people come to you. These clothes are IG magnets.

Never forget how your claws can enhance a fabulous festival outlet. They’re like ten mini-canvases. That’s how the nail artists at Sugar Nails approach a manicure, anyway. Customize your nail design to your outfit, the event theme, even your aura.

Oh, yeah, Ren nerds, we’ve got something for you too. SoCal’s largest yearly Renaissance festival runs on weekends from April 7 through May 30 at the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area in Irwindale. If you’re into Elizabethan cosplay, the faire welcomes all lords and ladies, wizards and wenches, fairies and dragons. If that’s too much, we have a few pieces for practical play.

It doesn’t require 70 pounds of layers costumes and masks to connect with the era at the Faire. A few particularly detailed items can go a long way.

One piece of statement jewelry might be all you needs. Atomic City has unique and gorgeous silver pieces with antique finishes and Renaissance themes. These are pieces that evoke royalty, magic, power. You’ll have many choices in rings, bracelets, necklaces, and body jewelry.

Dress like someone should be opening doors for you at Typhoon Fashion. With modern versions of vintage fashions like ruffley white shirts, ornate jackets, and things with buckles and medals. Go from the Ren faire to the rock show with one simple piece.

SoCal’s world-renowned two-weekend music extravaganza has definitely become about the experience rather than the music. Not that The Weeknd, Beyonce, and Eminem will go ignored, but there is plenty of competition for the ears and eyes. If you’re heading to the Empire Polo Club April 13-15 or April 20-22, pack for pictures.

The days are long, the days are hot. Lots of walking or laying on grassy mud. And you might be camping which comes with its own issues. Pack light, earthy, and practical.

Everything in Rock Etiquette seems to be curated with Coachella in mind, from lived-in jeans and sexy shorts to fringy sweaters and chunky jewelry.  There are plenty of ways to personalize and elevated the “Coachella uniform,” and this is the store to do it.

OK, this may seem counterintuitive to standing for 15 hours in the desert heat, but trust that a comfy pair of Docs can be your best bet. They look good with everything. Protective, breathable, and comfortable, pair with cute socks and look like the superstar you are.

OK, look, at some point your phone is going to die (keeping up your Snap has a price) and you’ve got like SEVEN stages to prioritize. Don’t miss a single note – have an old school watch backup. This cute one has an LED light, alarms, a calendar, and is importantly water resistant.

Coachella’s country & western kid sibling runs for one weekend, April 27 through 29, at the Empire Polo Club. Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, and Garth Brooks are bringing the Nashville star power this year. And as always, the heat will be on and the beer will be flowing so come prepared but pace yourself.

While traditional country attire is appreciated, and even the norm, come on down to Melrose to find a little something special to own your look.

Blazing sun, dusty wind, and the sweats can do a number on your hair. Whether or not you’re wearing a hat, you want those locks to stay clean, smooth, and voluminous. Before heading to the desert, get a long-lasting blow out at Muse and don’t worry about it for the next three days.

If you’re going to do the boots, do the boots right. Get ‘em worn in, well-used, and ready for some s&*t kickin’. American Superior Vintage will have a lot of what you need head to toe, and for cowboy boots you don’t have to go anywhere else.

You don’t need a country music festival to walk out of Denim Heaven with bags full of jeans, but why not use Stagecoach as an excuse? Comfy full length, butt-hugging cut-offs, even jackets are in abundance and in many sizes and styles.
